Transmission Repair & Fluid Services in Calgary

Slipping gears, rough shifting, or burning smells? We provide honest diagnostics and precision maintenance to save you from expensive transmission failures.

Smooth Shifting & Long-Term Reliability

The transmission is the most complex (and expensive) component in your vehicle next to the engine. MGI Auto focuses on preventative maintenance and accurate repairs to keep your car moving smoothly.

Transmission Fluid Exchange

A “Check Engine” light or a rough shift doesn’t always mean you need a new transmission. Often, it’s just a faulty sensor or a stuck solenoid inside the valve body. We use advanced scanning tools to pinpoint electrical issues, often fixing the problem without removing the transmission from the car.

Computerized Diagnostics & Solenoid Repair

Is your “Check Engine” light on? Don’t guess the problem. We use advanced diagnostic scanners to communicate directly with your car’s computer. We interpret the fault codes and perform physical tests to pinpoint the exact root cause, saving you time and unnecessary repairs.

Manual Clutch Replacement

For those who still drive stick, a slipping clutch ruins the driving experience. If your engine revs but the car barely moves, or the pedal feels soft, we replace the clutch disc, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing to restore that crisp, factory-tight grab.

4WD & Transfer Case Service

In Calgary, 4WD is essential. The transfer case and differentials work hard to grip snowy roads. We drain and refill these critical components, checking for metal shavings or leaks that could lead to catastrophic failure when you need traction the most.

Transmission Services FAQ's

Is "lifetime" transmission fluid actually real?

Marketing vs. Reality. While manufacturers call it “lifetime,” they define “lifetime” as the warranty period (e.g., 100,000 km). In Calgary’s stop-and-go traffic and extreme cold, fluid degrades. MGI Auto recommends changing it every 60,000 to 100,000 km to prevent premature failure.

Risk is high. Driving with a slipping transmission causes massive friction and heat, which can turn a minor repair (like a low fluid issue) into a total catastrophe requiring a full replacement. It is safer and cheaper to tow the vehicle to the shop immediately.

Sourcing reliability. For major failures, MGI Auto typically installs remanufactured units from certified suppliers rather than rebuilding on a dirty bench. Remanufactured units come with updated internal parts, better warranties, and factory-level testing that ensures higher reliability than a local rebuild.

Labor intensive. Replacing a clutch requires separating the transmission from the engine. On most front-wheel-drive cars, this is a 6 to 8-hour job. For rear-wheel-drive trucks, it may be faster. Plan to leave the vehicle with us for at least one full day.

Methodology matters. A “drain-and-fill” only replaces about 40-50% of the fluid sitting in the pan. A complete exchange or “flush” pushes out the old fluid trapped in the torque converter and cooler lines, ensuring the entire system runs on 100% clean fluid.

Why Choose MGI Auto?

Transmission shops often have a bad reputation for condemning repairable units. MGI Auto prioritizes honesty. We differentiate between a minor electrical fix and a major mechanical failure. We walk you through the diagnostic report, showing you exactly what failed, so you never pay for a rebuild when a simple repair would suffice.
