Auto Heating & Air Conditioning Repair in Calgary

Freezing winter mornings or sweltering summer drives? We diagnose and fix climate control issues to ensure your cabin is comfortable and your windshield stays clear.

Complete Climate Control: Comfort & Safety

Your HVAC system isn't just about luxury; it's a safety necessity. Without proper heating and A/C, you cannot effectively defrost your windshield during Calgary's erratic weather.

A/C Recharge & Leak Detection

If your A/C is blowing warm air, you likely have a refrigerant leak. Simply adding gas is a temporary fix and illegal if it leaks out again. We use UV dye and advanced “sniffers” to locate the exact leak, repair the seal or hose, and then recharge the system to factory specifications.

Heater Core & Thermostat Repair

No heat in January is dangerous. If your engine warms up but the cabin stays cold, or if you smell sweet maple syrup (coolant), your heater core or thermostat may be failing. We flush clogged cores and replace faulty thermostats to restore powerful, hot air flow.

Blower Motor & Resistor Service

Is air barely coming out of the vents, or does the fan only work on the highest speed? This usually points to a failed blower motor resistor or a worn-out fan. Technicians test the electrical circuits and replace these components to restore full control over fan speed and volume.

Cabin Air Filter & System Sanitization

Musty smells inside the car often come from mold on the evaporator or a clogged filter. Especially during wildfire season, a clean cabin filter is vital for lung health. We replace dirty filters and perform ozone treatments to kill bacteria and eliminate odors at the source.

Heating & A/C FAQ's

My car is new. Do you support R1234yf refrigerant?

Capabilities are fully updated here. Most vehicles manufactured after 2015 require the new, eco-friendly R1234yf refrigerant. MGI Auto utilizes dual-machine setups to service both the new systems and the older R134a models, ensuring manufacturer warranty compliance.

Regulations in Alberta strictly prohibit knowingly recharging a leaking system. If the refrigerant is low, a leak exists. Technicians must legally identify and repair the breach using pressure tests or dyes before the system can be refilled.

Coolant leaks are the primary cause. That sweet scent typically indicates that antifreeze is leaking from the heater core located behind the dashboard. This requires immediate attention, as breathing coolant vapors is hazardous and can fog up the windshield greasy.
Complexity drives the timeline. A standard evacuation, leak test, and recharge takes about 90 minutes. However, replacing a buried evaporator core or heater core requires removing the entire dashboard, which is a major job often spanning 1 to 2 days.
Actuators are likely to blame. In dual-zone climate systems, a “blend door” motor controls the temperature mix. If this small motor fails, it gets stuck in one position. Diagnostics involve scanning the HVAC module to pinpoint exactly which door has failed.

Why Choose MGI Auto?

Environmentally responsible repair is our standard. Many shops bypass regulations, but MGI Auto is fully certified to handle refrigerants (ODP Certified). We are equipped to service both older vehicles (R134a) and newer models requiring the complex R1234yf refrigerant. We don’t just “top up and hope”; we ensure the system is sealed and legally compliant.
